Google is No.1

There are many search engines out there, a high number of which are completely pointless, or actually use the search results of some of the bigger search engines, but when you break it down, there is really only 3 search engines to consider.

Google

Bing

Yahoo

I am happy for people to have different views on this, and by all means if you think another search engine is worth ranking with one of the big 3 then please let me know, but based on size, reach, traffic, use and ranking value, these 3 easily rank highest.

Each of the search engines have minor different factors of SEO that you can consider if wishing to optimize it exclusively for that engine. But if we break it down, out of all the traffic you get, at least 50% is likely to be from Google. When people go to search for something, I’d be happy to bet on 50% of the people using Google as the search engine (out of the 3). That is a big percentage. So ask yourself, why focus extra time making your site more optimized to Yahoo over Google if your greatest traffic, and thus ultimately activity and sales will come from Google?

To conclude, for anyone that didn’t know, Google rankings should be your target when it comes to promotion and SEO.
